Calling all modern art alchemists! Humans have been drawn to gold as early as 40,000 BC when traces of gold were found in ancient caves inhabited by Paleolithic age people. The original alchemists had an interest in transmutating base metals into gold using the four elements of earth, air, water and fire. While some of these chemists wanted to profit from making gold, others were seeking immortality in an elixir of life or a panacea as a universal remedy. In the spirit of curiosity, some were interested in learning more about how nature works while others were fascinated by the connection between the physical and the spiritual or cosmic. How do you relate to the concept of alchemy? Show us in your artwork!
